There are four main chassis types that transform into different vehicles, each offering unique advantages and abilities. The main feature of the game is the ability to transform to alter combat and to maneuver the world more quickly. There is also a Co-op vs AI Escalation mode where players face 15 waves of increasing difficulty enemies while unlocking different weapons, upgrades and map traps.

The game also features Player vs Player class based Mulitplayer on a variety of maps, with large customization options and a focus on transforming combat. Players play as both Autobots and Decepticons in different missions, culminating in a final mission where Optimus Prime and Megatron duke it out top of the Ark as it travels. The Autobots fight their last battles on Cybertron against the Decepticons, though as energon is limited and time is running out, they are forced to evacuate on a ship name the Ark. The game features a main campaign that picks up directly after the events of War for Cybertron.
